Kick Start

Two things to kick start the season.

First I contacted our Team in Training coaches for the Flying Pig marathon. This creates a point of no return. Fully committed.

Secondly, we have a modest goal for this season--To cure all blood cancers. Seems like a reasonable objective for the spring and it leaves us the rest of the year to organize our Hummel collection. To cure cancer we'll need a little more---you know, for the effort. Gene Chung and Kim Miller are first out of the blocks with a HUGE donation. Now I really cannot turn back because they live on the marathon route and will surely know if I fail to come by.

Try to Remember the Kind of September....

It is scary and at the same time great.

Let me back up first-- I am trying to remember what is what like to be in full force training. I have dropped my focus and need to get it back with the spring and summer racing season coming along.

So Lisa, accidentally, reminded me of how memory can drive our motivation. She told me that Christopher, the chatty one with the glasses, was wishing her a good Christmas this year. He told her that things had not always been easy for her and that at one time she was sick. He even mentioned that she had to go around the house with a giant IV bag. All of that is true but it happened 3 years ago, for a total of two days when he was only three. A powerful memory of a bad thing that gets turned into a good thing.

When Lisa got sick one of my goals was for the kids to understand that you can make a good thing out of a bad thing.

Back to the problem at hand, can I make a good thing out of the utter lackluster athletic performance of the last six months?

Now, What Was I Saying ?

We went to see this guy in the red suit. It reminded me how out of shape I am.
So I talked to him about it and asked for new running shoes and a heart rate monitor.
First things first--our initial goal is the Flying Pig Marathon in May. So time to get cracking.
