Taking Stock

First some big news. I got my first comment. You know the little spot at the bottom of the entry where people can leave comments. Well I got my first from Jason Wessel. This proves I do not blog in vain.

Now on to taking stock...

2 months to go before the St. Anthony's triathlon.

Fundraising on track---but I have added some events for the later in the summer that up the ante.

Lost 20 lbs with a planned goal to lose 10 more before the event.

Hitting my training goals. For instance, this weekend I did a 1 1/2 hour training bike ride on Friday, 3000 yard swimming on Saturday and an hour run today. Now all of this would have been fine, but what really put me down was the tubing on Saturday, skiing with Christopher today and Andrew's decision to wake up repeatedly last night.

I think I am in a decent position right now but not ahead of the game. If we execute correctly for the next 9 weeks things will be just fine. Unless, of course sharks arrive in Tampa Bay.........

My Wife Would Not Do That

A couple of weeks ago I was training on our indoor track. Now it's barely two people wide so it requires it's own social order. We have sprinters, joggers, runners, middle aged men pre heart attack and the rare stray dog.

On this particular day I was getting ready to start when I see them coming to the track. The mother daughter combination. Not just any MDC--but the absolute classic. Blond teenager and ultrathin, ultra suburban mother. Now the cherry on the sundae---mom is outfitted entirely in pink. So they begin their workout. The workout consists of walking around the track at the slowest possible speed---two abreast. By what about the cellphone. Oh yes, the cellphone. You see the quality moment between parent and child could only be enhanced by Mom's non stop yapping.

2 points about the cellphone:

1) You do not have anything important to say.
2)We all make mistakes. So one would think that after the fifth runner squeezes by you at full speed the message would be clear. Maybe shuffling 2 across while talking on a cellphone is not what society needs you to do at this very moment in time. Of course the beauty is, anyone this clueless is not going to be impacted by others.

The best part---my wife would never do this. Too much focus---all business.

Careful what you ask for

Let me start by pointing out that I have a problem with soda. I drink soda like it is going out of style. Not great for weight loss and I have to struggle to avoid it. I don't drink coffee so it is my morning start me up.

But enough about that...

Last night things were going downhill. The whole house was sick. Upchuck---tossing and turning----the full nightmare.

So I had to be the driver for school this am. Made me very late for work. On my way I realize that that the car is almost out of gas. In for a fill up----

In the little store----way in the back---in the refrigerator----the last Mountain Dew. Only one left

Has my luck changed?

Yea Yea Yea

Decent training recently. Went to Chicago for fun this weekend. Still got in an hour run---ok I cheated and ran a treadmill. Also got in some weight work.

Lisa and I got back early enough that I was also able to do my swiming time trial at 500 and 100 yards. I feel like I am on the verge of putting my swim together.

More swimming tonight---tomarrow is an off day---Yea Yea Yea

Great news today. Looks like I have a definite in for Philly Tri in June. Swim in a river? Bike in Philly? Run (for your Life) in Philly? Well on we go to the "City of Brotherly Mug (love)"

How Long?

Workout today was a little bit of a combination. I rode the bike on a trainer for an hour and then went out for a forty minute run. Now I did double duty since I missed yesterday. Tomarrow I am hoping for an outdoor ride of about an hour and a half under cold conditions.

Normally I bring my lunch but today I was all out of gas. So I thought I would just but my lunch. Crew was nice enough to go to Applebees for me. But what to have? So many choices. I went with the steak Fajita. Now for me that means steak, tortilla and cheese. I do not do condiments. So for 2 hours while biking and running tonight I got to "revisit" Applebees.

So my question is:How long should I be punished for this transgression?

Speedo

Recently, Greg and Gene (two prosepctive triathletes and Team In Training fundraisers) asked me the question that is on everyone's mind. You know the question that has plagued Americans, but not Europeans, for centuries. The question that gets to the very essence of our being.

"If I want to swim in something more hydrodynamic than surf shorts but less revealing than a Speedo, what are my options?"

My answer is always the same. For women----I recomend ............. (well you fill in the blanks). For men----Jammers. All that great Speedo fit, only in a bigger package.

Great Training today. 53 minute run in a rain storm followed by an hour of weights.

Transportation forms for the St. Anthony's Triathlon arrived today---No Turning Back.

I Am Now Using Steroids

The shoulder is really improving. I saw Ed at Wellington Ortho on Monday. In went the injection. Things are now about 99% better. Sometimes you just need a little help.

Had a great run building up intensity and then dropping off. Excellent stride. Probably the best workout of the new year.
